Is a breast lift right for me?
If you suffer from ptosis-drooping and sagging of the breasts - a breast lift might be right for you. Often combined with a breast augmentation to replace loss of fullness due to aging, a breast lift can restore your breasts to a more youthful appearance.
Breast lifts are normally recommended for women who don't plan any future childbearing, as pregnancy and nursing can reverse the effects of the breast lift procedure.
Will I be able to breastfeed following a breast lift?
Although any breast surgery carries some risk of inhibiting your ability to breastfeed, this is not a common risk of the breast lift. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, however, may serve to reverse your breast lift, so it is usually recommended that you have a breast lift after you've finished childbearing and nursing.
When is the right time to have a breast lift?
Age is not necessarily a factor in being a candidate for a breast lift. Many women experience ptosis at a fairly early age, and may choose to have a breast lift while relatively young. Others may not develop the drooping and sagging until later in life. If your breasts have lost their fullness, begun to droop and sag, or have become positioned lower on your chest, and you would like to restore them to a more youthful appearance, a breast lift might be right for you.
How long will the recovery take?
The recovery time for a breast lift will depend on the type of procedure you have, and on individual factors.
For the first few days following your procedure, your cosmetic surgeon may prescribe medication to lessen the swelling and discomfort in the early healing stages. Within a few weeks, you will probably be able to resume most of your normal activities, and most patients are fully healed within a few months.
Will there be scarring after the breast lift?
Yes. You will have some amount of scarring at the site of your incisions, but those scars will follow the natural lines of the breast, and are usually not severe. The appearance and extent of scarring, however, depends in large part on unique physiological factors such as your general health, skin type, and habits such as smoking. Ask your surgeon for any advice on ways to minimize scarring following your procedure.
