Breast Reconstruction Questions
Serving Beverly Hills, Los Angeles,
Newport Beach, & Orange County, California
Should I have breast reconstruction?
This is entirely up to you. Many women feel self-conscious and uncomfortable following a mastectomy, and choose to have a breast reconstruction to improve their self-image. Others prefer to adapt to the loss of the breast than put themselves through additional surgical procedures.
When deciding whether to have a breast reconstruction, it is important to do only what is right for you. For help in assessing your situation and reaching a conclusion, call or email our breast surgeon to schedule an appointment today at Bray Plastic Surgery Medical Center to discuss your options with a skilled professional in a safe, caring environment.
Can I just have the breast mound recreated, and not have all the other procedures?
Absolutely. Many women are happy with simply recreating the breast mound, as this is sufficient to create the appearance of the breast when they are clothed.
Will breast reconstruction leave scars?
Yes. Regardless of the method you choose, there will be some scarring following a breast reconstruction. Scarring will be evident at any incision site, and there may be perceptible differences in the texture of the skin recreated or transferred during breast mound reconstruction. Modern surgical procedures and meticulous after-care can minimize this effect, however.
Will my new breast match my remaining one?
Your cosmetic surgeon will do everything possible to recreate the appearance of a natural breast to match the existing one. However, if you have sagging or drooping of the other breast, it is likely that the newly created breast will not match entirely. Many women choose to have a breast augmentation or breast lift on the natural breast so that it matches their new one more closely.
Will my new breast look like the old one did after breast reconstruction?
Your new breast will probably not look exactly like the one that was removed. Your surgeon will make every effort to recreate a natural, symmetrical breast, but it may not result in an exact replacement.
If you have any other questions about breast reconstruction procedures and the options available to you, call or email our cosmetic surgeons today, and we'll schedule a personal consultation.
