Laser Hair Removal
Serving Los Angeles, Newport Beach, & Orange County, California
Laser hair removal is performed using a technology called Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL. In this procedure, a handheld device is used that emits pulses of light that are able to effectively target hair follicles in their growth phase, damaging or destroying the follicles, thus preventing regrowth.
The IPL treatment
When you arrive for IPL treatment, the hair to be removed is first trimmed above the skin, and a gel solution is applied over the area to be treated. You may then be asked to put on protective eyewear to prevent damage from the laser.
Your nurse will then run the IPL device over the area, where the pulses of light will be absorbed by the follicles of hair that is in its growth phase. This destroys the hair root, preventing regrowth. Once the treatment is complete, the gel will be wiped off, taking much of the treated hair along with it. Over the next week or two, the remaining hair will fall out on its own.
Because IPL only works on hair that is in an active growth phase, the laser hair removal procedure may have to be repeated in order to reach all of the hair in the treatment area.
