What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is an FDA-approved injectable filler made from calcium-based microspheres in a water-based gel. It is injected into the skin, and is a non-invasive cosmetic surgery procedure. It has been in use for about five years to fill in wrinkles. With advanced injection techniques we are able to provide long lasting corrections to lines and wrinkles for up to two years. Radiesse can also be used to augment your cheeks to add definition.

How does Radiesse work?
Like other fillers, Radiesse works by filling in the space of collagen lost during the aging process. In addition, Radiesse stimulates the body to produce new collagen. This enables Radiesse to create a natural look that lasts a year or more. Your body absorbs the water-based gel over the first few weeks. As the gel is absorbed, new collagen begins to grow around the microspheres. Radiesse continues to stimulate the body to produce new collagen around these microspheres. As the microspheres are safely and naturally absorbed into your body, the new collagen stays giving you a more youthful appearance. Now Radiesse can also be used to fill volume in the cheeks to replace fat lost with age producing fuller cheeks.

What is the procedure like?
Radiesse is injected into the cheeks in small amounts in an outpatient setting. You may experience some minor discomfort, but it is minimized as much as possible. Results are virtually instantaneous and can last up to a year or more.

Is Radiesse safe?
Yes. While there may be some bruising, minimal discomfort, swelling, or redness due to the injections, it passes fairly quickly leaving you with fewer lines or fuller cheeks. Dr. Bray will discuss these issues with you in your consultation.

How long does Radiesse last?
Radiesse treatments typically last up to one year, but can last longer. Whether using Radiesse to lessen wrinkles or augment your cheeks, the long lasting effects of Radiesse will leave you looking younger.

Am I a candidate for Radiesse?
While injectables are not for everyone, generally being in good health and having a positive state of mind will increase your candidacy. The difference with Radiesse, as with all injectable fillers, is that it isn’t permanent or invasive.

If you feel that your cheeks could have a more youthful appearance, please discuss Radiesse with Dr. Bray by contacting us at the Bray Plastic Surgery Medical Center to schedule a facial rejuvenation appointment.
